The hike:

  •  The Valley of Flowers

The biggest reason I love the trek is the beautiful valley itself. When I stand at the entrance of the valley, I see a colorful carpet stretching out in front of me. The valley is at least a couple of kilometers wide and more than 10 kilometers long!

There’s a narrow path between the flowers, and as you walk along it, you start to see different kinds of flowers. Some have bright colors, others are shaped differently, and some even have smells that you hadn’t noticed before. A few steps later, you come across another type of flower – these ones are much bigger than the other ones. As you explore further into the garden, you notice that there has been a change in both the plants and animals too – they’ve all grown larger or changed shape in some way.

I sat down next to the flowers and laid down on the trail. I wanted to feel a part of all of them.

  • The climb and Hemkund Sahib
Valley of Flowers is a moderate trek, but the climb to Hemkund challenges you to the next level. In 6 km, you gain almost 4,000 ft., which introduces a new challenge as well as taking you to a scenic zone that you didn’t expect. This gives you an amazing bird’s-eye view of Ghangaria and the Valley of Flowers, putting perspective on landscape scenery that even drone or helicopter flights can’t beat! Once you reach the top of Hemkund Sahib, the silence of the lake and surrounding mountains is stunning. The majestic lake reflecting its surroundings – the mountains and Gurudwara – can make you reflect on your entire journey.
  • The cultural experience

Valley of Flowers is a trek, but it’s more than that- it’s an inspiring journey of faith undertaken by humans. You see youngsters, middle-aged, elderly, children and toddlers on the climb to the lake at 14,000 feet. Many take the support of ponies or even porters, but quite a few of them climb on their own power. Volunteers swept the trail at Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara in freezing temperatures last night to keep it clean and working. It was a wonderful feeling to wake up early and watch the parade calls of the Sikh Gurudwara before starting our hike.

The views:

The hike is not long, the views are worth it. You will see peaks, valleys. The hike can take anywhere from 2-4 hours to complete. Be prepared for a lot of uphill walking.? There is a rest stop halfway through where you can take a break and drink some water. When you reach the top of the mountain, you will be rewarded with an incredible view of valley of flower.

In conclusion, a hike to the valley of flowers is an unforgettable adventure that will leave you feeling refreshed and invigorated. The natural beauty of the valley is simply breathtaking, and it’s well worth the effort to hike up to it. So if you’re looking for a new and exciting adventure, be sure to add the valley of flowers to your list!
